Take A Deep Breath and Plunge In

Diesel Bug KillerImagine the first time you jumped into the water. Either that, or imagine the first time you jumped into a lake or the ocean. You hold your breath, you close your eyes, and you are sure that the result will be terrible. You are so afraid. Everyone is watching. You have to do it.

You take a deep breath, and you plunge in.

The water hits you like a brick wall, in the beginning.

If you jumped into a lake or the ocean, the cold takes your breath away. Even if you are studiously holding your breath, the cold seems to knock whatever oxygen you have inside of your right out of your body. Suddenly, the cold is above you, keeping you from your air. You struggle, thrashing wildly not intelligently, and seem to come up to the surface far later than you should have.

Your lungs fill with that first deep gulp. The light blinds your eyes, and you are not sure which ways is up. Then, you quickly find where the shore is, and swim frantically toward it, until your feet touch the bottom, and you feel like you have contact with dry land again.

Have you ever thought that this must be what it feels like, if you were mother earth, to be polluted with toxic chemicals all of the time? It’s too much. It’s overwhelming.

Let Envirosafe Solutions bring you chemicals which are eco friendly. Let our environmentally friendly liquids help you maintain your business, from fuel conditioner to toilet bowl cleaner, and from mineral deposit remover to radiator coolant. Together, we can make mother earth feel better about our presence.

Rather than being dumped off a cliff into the ocean, we can nurture and protect the earth, by gradually walking our environmentally friendly behaviors into the warm tropical sea. Gradually, little by little, we are soothed by the warm, swirling ocean around us. That is the way to treat planet earth, not with harsh chemical treatments. Call Envirosafe Solutions if you want to share the soft, gentle protection of our world with our company. We provide high quality chemical solutions to business all over Australia and to select countries: (+61) 1300 88 90 70.

Agriculture and Its Carbon Footprint

marine glass cleanerIf you have been keeping up with reading all of your National Geographic and Smithsonian magazines, you know how important it is that the agricultural industry reduces its own carbon footprint and that it finds better, more sustainable ways of continuing, particularly since the global need for food may double by 3050 due to the population increase worldwide and the fact that developing nations are able to sustain themselves better and therefore have a higher quality preference for food.

Agriculture is one of the heaviest polluters on the earth, and you would think this wouldn’t be the case since it is growing stuff! However, agriculture, with the farm equipment, need for fuel, and the fact that many different plants contribute to the petroleum industry’s headway into modern society, is one of the biggest polluters in the world, and it must be brought down a bit on the emissions scale.

Even corn is used to produce ethanol, and many plant based chemicals are combined with petroleum products or are used to refine petroleum products. Agriculture itself is a big problem, but as our educational magazines tell us, it can be made far better than it is right now. One of the ways this can happen is through using some of the planet protecting techniques employed in small farms in developing countries and combining that with modern technology and innovation.

If we could combine the strengths from developing nations and modern systems, without either of their weaknesses, then we might have a solution to agriculture on our hands. Of course, we would need to implement whatever approach we took for long enough that we would know how to it would affect soil conditions over time, but that is just a matter of research.

84 Year Report on Icelandic Eco Village

Eco FriendlyThe Solheimar eco village in Iceland is only an hour outside of Reykjavik. It has only 120 residents, 40 of whom are special needs individuals. It has several small factories, a community geothermal pool, and many cool amenities which make it one of the friendliest, earthiest, and most eco friendly places which you could possibly find in Iceland, and that is saying a lot. Iceland is known for its eco friendly sustainability.

Although we would consider this to be an eco village today, it has existed for 84 years and is one of the oldest of such villages in Iceland. It was originally started as a special needs farm and home, but it has grown into the village which visitors would find completely wonderful.

Naturally, in order for a village such as this to be completely eco friendly, it has to use eco friendly cleaning solutions. This is the kind of situation for which you can use products from Envirosafe Solutions. We have many different products with many different uses, but they are all eco friendly industrial liquids, and we are so proud of the way that we are making a difference in the world today. Corporate Offices & Businesses

New Standards in Company Design

Solvent Free DegreaserNew standards in company design are making the act of being eco friendly much easier than it used to be. Company design requires a total architecture, aesthetics, and color scheme to all be taken into consideration when coming up with the texture and feel for your business.

So, when you are looking to implement eco friendly design, you already have more space and friendlier space to work with here in modern times than you did twenty years ago, or even ten years ago.

Companies are recognizing a need for space, a need for design and influence, and they are seeing that human nature itself needs warm, slick, modern design more than it needs efficiency or cramped office spaces. New standards in company design allow for the implementation of eco friendly features, such as solar paneling, window usage, airflow ventilation, and living walls.

Of course, with all of those environmentally safe features, you will want to use environmentally friendly liquids, or chemicals, to keep everything in good working order without harsh chemical residue or non-breathable air at certain times of the day.

Design has now led into the development of insulation which is not only more eco friendly, but which is changeable and movable, depending upon the weather or the season, so that the building itself (or the inner shell of the building) can be altered at will to meet the needs created by hot and cold weather, the extremes of both.

Of course, company design also has to do with the choices you make regarding the products your business orders to keep it going during difficult times. Without these products, your company could not function as well, and you might as well make sure that they are safe for the planet.

Envirosafe Solutions has a long list of chemical products for your business. We provide eco friendly industrial liquid to companies in Australia and other select countries and we make being ecologically safe really easy. All you have to do is pick from our selection of chemicals: antibacterial hand wash, solvent free degreaser, radiator cleaner, multi-purpose lubricant, and many others, and then call us and place your order, or place your order online: (+61) 1300 88 90 70.

Tree Homes

Rust RemoverOn the famous Animal Planet television channel, there is numerous programming for the Treehouse Master TV show, and Pete the expert travels all over the U.S. (and all over the world) looking for new and unusual tree houses and building custom tree houses for clients. There is something magical and primal about living in a tree house, even a custom built modern one, which appeals pretty deep to the human soul.

It’s private, it’s cozy, and there is always a perception within the house that you can’t be seen from without it. It’s a really cool feeling and there are few people who don’t find tree houses magical.

Pete the tree house master is always excited to learn about new tree houses and to see what other people have done over the course of many years when they develop and build their own tree houses. But, how does this discussion relate to being eco friendly? We’re glad you asked.

You see, when people commune with nature, they learn more about nature and how everything fits together to form a perfect whole, where thousands of tiny, unseen eco systems thrive and work together to form this cohesive whole.

Envirosafe Solutions specializes in eco friendly liquid products, but we know that not everyone takes nature activities to the point of using eco friendly chemical solutions, much less to the point of actually developing and living in a tree house as a residence. Well, it is always a good idea to take the first tiny step there is to take.

Use our chemical solutions which are all environmentally friendly liquids, like our solvent free degreaser, our sanitiser, our mould rid, and our hard water laundry liquid. There are so many ways in which we have made our products safer for the environment than other chemicals of their nature, and we want to shout it from the treetops. Tree homes are a great use for our products, because you will need cleaning and maintenance chemicals which are safe for our environment. Therefore, only use products from Envirosafe Solutions in your tree house! At the same time, you can benefit the earth by using them in your business, both your office and jobsite, as well. The Use of Animals

mineral deposit removerBeing eco friendly in today’s world, a world of polluting innovation and efficient toxicity, can be an interesting process. For instance, if your business involves animals in any way, you may be said to be exploiting animals for your own benefit or you may be said to use animals in an eco friendly way to get work done.

Being sustainable is right, but hurting or harming animals is wrong. Where exactly do we draw the line?

What are the benefits to bringing animals into the worksite and job marketplace? The truth is that animals may be used for training employees, for pulling heavy loads, for carrying people and packages across large spaces, and for a wide variety of other purposes. Of course, if animals and people are so suited to work together, then you would think that many countries would want to replace their low cost, but high pollution transportation systems with slightly higher cost, but much lower pollution solutions which will aid you in your progress to make the world more ecologically sound.

Of course, there is a great deal of investment in the idea that, if you can get something done with less work, then it is automatically better. Well, in many ways, that is true. Efficiency, smoothness of operation, and efficacy make an operation far more revenue attracting than other, slower ways.

As long as we are using animals for eco friendly reasons, then we have to be able to care for them and clean up after them on a regular basis. Disinfectant, antibacterial hand wash, and mould rid are important parts of this process, and ours are all eco friendly in and of themselves. Naturally, you would wish to incorporate our products into your line of chemical solutions and perhaps to suggest their use to other animal caregivers and handlers.

When you use products from us, you are purposely and actively making the world better, and not just for you. Businesses which spread the word, either directly or indirectly, about eco friendly products to their employees are engaging their workers’ minds and allowing them to see the future possibilities. Huge Iceberg headed toward Shipping Lanes in the Ocean

Eco Friendly Liquid ProductsThe iceberg known as B31 broke off of an Antarctic glacier in November of 2013. Naturally, scientists from NASA and several international agencies have been keeping a close eye on it, even going so far as to drop quite a few GPS tracking devices onto it so that we can keep a better eye on it. You would think that something of this size would be easy to track, but many icebergs are difficult to tracking during the winter months, in the dark, and other various additional conditions.

B-31 is now getting closer to shipping lanes, which have been more prevalent in recent years due to increased traffic in the southern seas, which in turn is due to more advanced technology allowing us to travel further and further out into once unfamiliar territory. Scientists are particularly watchful of this area of the Antarctic, since glaciers and icebergs seem to be melting much faster here than in other areas. They are concerned that this may be one of the biggest contributing factors to sea levels rising.

Naturally, everyone wants to make a difference when it comes to global warming, but too many people think that they are just not able to make a big enough impact to make any difference to the temperature of planet Earth. However, it is the combined use of many little changes which can, in the end, make the most difference. That is why using eco friendly chemical solutions in your regular business care and maintenance can make all of the difference in the world someday.

Envirosafe Solutions provides environmental cleaning products which are safe for the planet and which you can use to help with your part in the fight against global warming. We provide rust converter, toilet bowl cleaner, rubber remover, industrial hand cleaner and many other products. All of our chemicals are eco friendly and we provide you with a thirty day money back guarantee, so that you can try out our products and make sure that they live up to our hype. If you are looking for your own way to join the fight against global warming, then look for products from Envirosafe Solutions: (+61) 1300 88 90 70.

Eco consumerism on the rise? It depends who’s asking

Solvent-Free Degreaser, Sanitiser/Mould Rid, Hard Water - Laundry LiquidGreen products have become a staple on supermarket shelves as major brands employ eco-credentialsas a powerful marketing tool. Yet research intoconsumer preferencesand spending is conflicting.

Hot on the heels of the phosphate-free laundry campaign, a new survey has shown consumers prefer to see environmental cleaning products on supermarket shelves.

The May Canstar Blue survey of 2500 Australian consumers revealed supermarket giant Aldi (the first supermarket to take steps to ban phosphate-based laundry products) had the most satisfied laundry powder customers.

The preference for eco-friendly laundry powders extends to environmental practices, with one in four customers also recycling washing water onto the garden.

The campaign to ban phosphate-based household laundry products – replacing them with environmental cleaning products – was a significant success for green revolution lobbyists Do Something. Phosphates are banned from cleaning products in the US and parts of Europe.

Green products hardest hit by US recession

International research though has shown a decline in the sale of green products during the US recession and global financial crisis. In the US sales of environmental cleaning products line Green Works reportedly fell from about $100 million to $60 million a year.

This was more apparent in eco-friendly lines offered by major brands.

“You see disproportionately negative impact from products like Green Works, out of the big blue-chip companies that have tried to layer a green offering on top of their conventional offering, and a relatively better performance from the niche players who remain independent,” said analyst Stephen Powers, of Sanford C. Bernstein and Company. He based his findings on a Bernstein study of monthly sales for almost 4,300 items in 22 categories, from 2006 to 2011

Consumers wary of green prices

A recent study by US cosmetics and skincare company L’Oreal found 43 per cent of those surveyed would only buy environmentally or socially responsible products if they did not cost more. Other green consumerism trends include:

  • A perception that the green revolution movement was ‘feminine’, with more women than men choosing environmental cleaning products;
  • A preference for mainstream brands with a green label than specialised environmental companies;
  • A finding by NBC Universal that environmental consumerism is on the rise. Its poll also found an increasing number of consumers were prepared to boycott a company if it believed it had poor environmental practices;
  • Increasing numbers of consumers prefer to buy from environmentally responsible companies.

Research into commercial consumerism gives conflicting results. There seems to be a divide between what consumers say and how they actually spend their money. Part of this could be attributed to a lack of transparency and legitimacy in green credentials.

Leading environmental cleaning products company Envirosafe Solutions knows too well that some labels on environmentally friendly liquids do not live up to the marketing hype.

In a bid to win over consumers, more and more products are boasting green credentials yet fail in both performance and environmental stakes.

Envirosafe Solutions has developed a clear rating system for each of its products, which helps business and industry identify hazard levels in terms of health, environment, transport and storage. Its products are extremely economical and do not contain fillers, meaning they can be diluted and used sparingly for effective results.

Environmental consumerism will not move into the mainstream unless products not only offer legitimate environmental credentials but also outstanding performance – saving business and industry time and money. For real environmental cleaning products with proven results contact Envirosafe Solutions on 1300 88 90 70 or email info@evss.com.au.

Mangrove preservation project wins 20th Annual Golden Gecko Award

Dishwasher Rinse Aid, Fabric Conditioner, Laundry Powder, Dust SuppressorThe Golden Gecko Awards have reached a 20 year milestone in recognising environmental excellence by Western Australia’s mining and petroleum industries. As one of the last animals to return to an area disturbed by mining, geckos have become a symbol of the green revolution underway in the resource sector.

World-leading technology to monitor environmental impacts on mangroves at Port Hedland has taken out honours in the 2011 Golden Gecko Awards.

Worley Parsons and the Port Hedland Port Authority won this year’s Golden Gecko Award for an innovative approach to measuring sedimentation on mangroves.

Mangrove trees grow near the Port Headland Port (Australia’s largest export port) and provide a nursery for marine life while also stabilising water quality and preventing shoreline erosion. Sediment stirred up by dredging activity smothers their roots.

The new real-time sedimentation scanner developed by Worley Parsons provides data critical to monitoring and reducing sedimentation.

The Golden Gecko commitment

The Golden Gecko Awards ceremony was held at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Perth on Thursday, September 8.

The awards, which were first launched by the WA Department of Mines and Petroleum in 1992, recognise and celebrate a commitment by the resource sector to preserve and restore the natural environment.

In contrast to early mining and exploration (where scant regard was paid to environmental costs), the modern face of mining has drawn on technology and research to reduce impacts. Best environmental practice policies include the use of environmentally friendly liquids to reduce soil and water contamination.

Merit winners

The Golden Gecko Awards also recognised ATCO Gas Australia, supported by KD1, and Compass Groups (Australia) for their extreme green projects.

ATCO Gas Australia and KD1 were able to complete a new gas pipeline with 40 per cent less clearing and no loss of Black Cockatoo habitat trees.

Compass Groups (Australia) reduced waste and greenhouse emissions from food catering at remote sites by creating compost, livestock feed production and bulk food preparation initiatives.

Remote site challenges

One of the challenges faced at remote mining sites is hard water, which can make cleaning in the laundry, kitchen or worksite difficult. Environmental cleaning products offer a solution to using toxic chemicals, reducing soil and water contamination while improving health and safety.

As a leading Perth-based supplier of eco-friendly industrial liquids, Envirosafe Solutions has tailored a range of environmentally friendly liquids for remote mining sites.

Low toxic, biodegradable yet extremely hard-working and fast-acting, its Extreme Greenrange can readily replace almost every other chemical used at mining sites. From low-phosphate laundry powder to non-toxic dust suppressors, there is an environmental solution available.

WA Mines and Petroleum Minister Norman Moore said the commitment by the resource industry, its suppliers and service partners, to achieving greener outcomes was commendable.

“The Golden Gecko’s is an outstanding opportunity to recognise those leading the industry in innovative environmental practices. I congratulate our award winners and certificate recipients.”

Decline in forage fish numbers threatens larger species

Porta-Loo Treatment, Marine Glass CleanerOverfishing of small ‘forage’ fish including sardines, krill and anchovies are threatening larger ocean predators. New research has recommended reduced catches of these species – an important food source for larger fish and marine life – to ensure fisheries remain environmentally sustainable.

Large fish, marine and bird life are finding their food supplies running short.

Fishing of small, forage stocks has had significant effects on larger, predatory species according to a report published in the journal Science.

The report, by the CSIRO’s Dr Tony Smith, drew on international research from Australia, the US, UK, South Africa, France and Peru.

“Forage species such as anchovy, sardine, herring, mackerel and krill often are the main food source for larger predatory fish, marine mammals and seabirds,” Dr Smith said.

“They account for more than 30 per cent of global fisheries production for use directly as human food and indirectly in livestock feeds and demand is rising.”

Dr Smith said some ecological groups had declined by more than 60 per cent due to the effects of forage fishing at current levels.

“The modelling showed that halving fishing rates for the high-impact species would greatly reduce the impact on ecosystems, while still achieving 80 per cent of the maximum sustainable yield.”

The Marine Stewardship Council (which helped fund the research) is revising its guidelines on forage fishing as a result of the study.

Creating a sustainable industry

Sustainable fisheries management is critical for long-term global food security.

Extending the green revolution beyond land involves limiting catch-sizes and closing off sensitive marine areas. Marine reserves are being developed across Australia, with community and industry consultations taking place in Western Australia earlier this year.

Environmental marine products play an important role in sustainable fishing. Eco-friendly industrial liquids (such as the Extreme Green range developed by Perth-based Envirosafe Solutions) reduce the use toxic chemicals at marinas and fishing ports.

The Extreme Green Marine Glass Cleaner was designed and approved for the Australian Navy – it uses a biodegradable formula to remove salt residue from ship glass (or any surface affected by salt spray) and is an effective alternative to traditional chemical cleaners.

Other environmental cleaning products are available to reduce the environmental impact of the fishing and marine industry.

Keeping our oceans healthy

Environment Minister Tony Bourke said Australia had the world’s third largest marine environment to protect.

“We know that Australians need their oceans to be healthy if they are going to keep providing us with fish to eat, a place to fish, provide sustainable tourism opportunities and a place for families to enjoy.

“That’s why (we) are working with communities to establish a network of marine reserves to drive a sustainable future for our marine environment; to ensure our oceans stay healthy and continue to sustain fish stocks.”

Depleting forage fish stocks has created a food shortage for fish, marine and bird species in some ocean areas. Measures to improve fishing sustainability and reduce impacts on the marine environment are critical. Dump fees tipped to rise under carbon tax

Hard Water - Laundry Liquid, Porta-Loo Treatment, Marine Glass Cleaner, Radiator CleanerDump fees have been tipped to rise when the planned carbon tax comes into effect from July 1 next year. The landfill industry claims dump operators will be subject to the $23-a-tonne tax and will be forced to pass it on to users, including councils, businesses and households.

The cost of dumping rubbish is set to increase.

By July next year all those old papers, cardboard boxes, empty containers of glass cleaner or industrial hand cleaner and other corporate waste will cost more to leave at the dump.

If you haven’t done so already, catching up with the green revolution and recycling as much office waste as possible will help avoid being caught up in rising dump fees.

Choosing bulk office products (such as those giant tins of coffee for a start) and concentrated cleaning products (make sure they are environmentally friendly liquids) will save money and give the environment a helping hand.

Each tonne of rubbish send to the dump from July next year could rise by $36, according to dump operators.

TheLandfill Owner’s Association has predicted this cost would be imposed on households through increased council rates. Businesses and individuals which take loads of rubbish direct to the tip will also face increased costs.

Federal Climate Change Minister Greg Combet said landfill waste produced methane gas for up to 20 years. He argued the carbon tax would provide an incentive for landfill sites to reduce gas emissions by capturing methane and turning it into electricity.

The environmental costs of landfill sites include:

  • The release of methane, carbon dioxide and other hazardous compounds from organic waste;
  • Groundwater and soil contamination from solid landfill waste;
  • Land degradation including loss of vegetation and habitat.

Minimising waste involves reducing consumption, recycling and purchasing products in concentrated form and in bulk containers.

The following check-list can help businesses make greener product purchases and reduce waste:

Be informed

Know what you’re buying. There are green alternatives for everything from electricity to office furniture and cleaning chemicals. Buying sustainable products will not only help the environment but will be better for the health and productivity of staff.

Buy the best you can afford

There’s a lot of truth in the saying ‘we’re too poor to buy cheap’. Good quality products generally last longer, are made from more sustainable materials and are better for the environment.

Avoid excess packaging

Excess packaging is just a waste. Buy in bulk if you can – office cleaners (especially eco-friendly liquid products) are available in concentrated form in larger containers. Perth-based environmental cleaning products company Envirosafe Solutions supplies its non-toxic, biodegradable Extreme Green range to the corporate and industrial sector. Its products can be diluted and decanted into smaller, reusable containers and spray bottles to reduce waste.

The big tip for business wanting to avoid rising dump fees is to reduce waste and recycle. Make your next order of office chemicals environmental cleaning products by calling Envirosafe Solutions on 1300 88 90 70 or email info@evss.com.au.

Hand wash or dishwasher – what’s greener?

Dishwasher Powder, Dishwasher Rinse Aid, Laundry PowderIt’s a question as murky as dirty washing up water – is it better for the environment to hand wash dishes or stack them in a dishwasher? A UK study has attempted to give a definitive verdict on this perennial musing, but the real answer for the eco-conscious may lie in choosing an environmentally friendly dishwashing liquid or powder.

It’s time to come clean about how we wash our dishes.

Believe it or not, the choice of handwashing or using a dishwasher can produce almost identical energy consumption. Figures from the UK’s Guardian newspaper website show:

  • Almost zero carbon emissions are produced if washing dishes by hand in cold water (unfortunately for the green revolution this didn’t leave the plates clean!);
  • 540g of carbon emissions were produced washing by hand in warm water (and conserving water usage);
  • 770g of carbon emissions were produced in a dishwasher set at 55 degrees;
  • 990g of carbon emissions were produced in a dishwasher set at 65 degrees;
  • 8000g of carbon emissions were produced washing by hand using lots of hot water.

The carbon figures show that handwashing using a frugal amount of warm water is clearly the best option for the planet. Yet with bacteria surviving in lower temperatures, this method has been shown to leave up to 400 times more germs on the dishes.

If you prefer to leave the hot tap running while you’re washing the dishes you will produce eight times the amount of carbon emissions as running the dishwasher for a full cycle.

Dishwashers have high energy consumption because they heat their own water but stacking the machine properly, avoiding rinsing dishes under hot water first and using aneco settingreduces the environmental footprint.

Other factors to consider include the efficiency of the model of dishwasher – new appliances come with energy and water efficiency ratings.

Water conservation has become a major environmental issue in Australia and greywater recycling systems allow water from the kitchen sink to be pumped on lawns, gardens and reserves.

Choosing biodegradable, non-toxic environmental cleaning products ensures harmful chemicals will not be flushed down the drain.

For busy commercial kitchens green alternatives must deliver top results – eco-friendly liquid dishwashing products n cut through the grease and leave dishes sparkling.

Perth-based Envirosafe Solutions is a leading Australian supplier of environmentally friendly products. Its top-of-the-range green kitchen products include:

  • Extreme Green Dishwashing Liquid, a concentrated phosphate-free hand dishwashing liquid which is completely biodegradable and free-rinsing and performs in hot and cold water;
  • Extreme Green Commercial Kitchen Degreaser, a non-toxic formula (free of petro-solvents) which dissolves cooking grease, carbon deposits and burnt foodstuffs;
  • Extreme Green Dishwasher Liquid, a caustic-free, non-foaming formula ideal for all automatic dishwashing machines. This phosphate-free liquid performs in both hard and soft water, making it idea for use in rural areas;
  • Extreme Green Dishwasher Powder, a highly-concentrated detergent suitable for all commercial automatic dishwashers. Biodegradable and low in phosphates, this formula is safe for all septic systems;
  • Extreme Green Rinse-Aid, a biodegradable, fast-acting rinse aid which leaves dishes streak-free.

Washing the dishes – whether by hand or using a dishwasher – doesn’t need to leave a dirty smear on the environment. For advice on eco-friendly liquid products for commercial or corporate kitchens contact Envirosafe Solutions on 1300 88 90 70 or emailinfo@evss.com.au.

Chemical exposure causes 338 injuries in WA each year

Rubber Remover, Multi Purpose Lubricant, Fuel ConditionerIf you’re in the cleaning industry you may be surprised that non-environmental cleaning products can be as dangerous for your health as the bacteria, fungus and other nasties you’re trying to clean up. Toxins and allergens can become airborne and exacerbate respiratory conditions such as asthma. Direct contact can cause skin irritations. The worst toxins can even cause cancer.

The statistics prove what many workers already know – daily contact with workplace chemicals is a serious health risk.

Cleaning companies are at the forefront of the war against germs, grease and grime but face another foe in the chemicals found in cleaning products (unless they are using eco-friendly industrial liquids).

According to the Western Australian Department of Commerce each year on average there are 338 cases of lost time injuries or diseases (LTIs/D) related to chemical or substance exposure. Statistics from the department show:

  • The average days lost from such incidents is 7370 (or about 22 days lost per incident)
  • Lost time injuries and diseases from long term contact with chemicals or substances have been significantly reduced over the five year period from 2004-05 to 2008-09;
  • Poisoning, burns and dermatitis are the most typical problems associated with chemicals;
  • Eyes, hands, multiple systemic conditions and respiratory system are the body parts most commonly cited as being affected.

The best defense against unnecessary contact with harsh chemicals is to become familiar with chemical labeling. Product warnings are a good starting point – cleaning chemicals labeled ‘Posion’ or ‘Danger’ pose a greater risk than those labelled ‘Caution’ or ‘Warning’.

According to leading environmental cleaning products company Envirosafe Solutions labels can be misleading, as many claims can be ambiguous or false. (Some cleaners may be labelled ‘natural’, ‘environmentally-friendly’ or ‘non-toxic’ but these claims are often not independently verified.)

For this reason each of the Perth suppliers’ products has been independently rated to ensure customers store, transport and handle them safely.

“We are dedicated to finding the safest cleaning solutions available and part of that process involves providing customers with a clear, independent rating system on all our product labels,” Envirosafe Solutions director Murray Simon says.

Chemicals that should be avoided, or handled carefully, include:

  • Nonylphenolethoxylates (NPEs), which are found in many cleaning products and which when released into the environment can act as hormone disrupters affecting the reproductive capacity of fish, birds and mammals;
  • Antibacterials in particular triclosan found in many skincare products have been linked to cancer and antibiotic resistant bacteria. (Look for eco-friendly liquid products such as Envirosafe Solutions’ antibacterial hand wash which is free of triclosan);
  • Ammonia which is common in many floor, bathroom, tile and glass cleaners and can burn skin on contact and irritate respiratory passages.

Cleaning staff may be at the front line in the war against germs but choosing safe, environmentally friendly cleaning liquids and powders will ensure they don’t come under attack from their own side.

For more advice on safe, non-toxic cleaning solutions contact Envirosafe Solutions on 1300 88 90 70 or email info@evss.com.au.

Reducing fuel consumption and emissions part of the perfect flight

Rust Converter, Dishwasher Powder, Disinfectant, Rust RemoverAchieving the ‘perfect flight’ could help airlines dramatically reduce their fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. A trial program operated in Australia recently has highlighted the importance of best-practice air traffic procedures and, together with other extreme green measures (such as using eco-friendly industrial liquids) shows the way forward.

A program aimed at reducing aviation emissions has highlighted how the ‘perfect flight’ can produce significant environmental savings.

In mid-July two international Emirates flights through Australian airspace were afforded ‘perfect flight’ conditions. This was part of the Indian Ocean Strategic Partnership to Reduce Emissions (INSPIRE) program.

Achieving the perfect flight includesreducing ground delays, taking the shortest taxi route to take-off and having gradual climb and descent paths. It also involves flying the most direct routes based on existing weather and airspace conditions.

The results were impressive. According to air traffic controllers Airservices, results from the flights showed a combined total saving of more than 6250 litres of fuel and 16 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

“Based on the airline’s 63 weekly flights to and from Australia, the annual savings from INSPIRE would be in the order of 2.47 million litres of fuel and save approximately 6850 tonnes of carbon dioxide. This is the equivalent to around 49,000 tanks of fuel for an average sized car or the volume of one Olympic-sized swimming pool.”

Sustainable aviation

A sustainable aviation industry relies on new technologies including biofuels and programs such as INSPIRE that aim to reduce emissions through best-practice flights.

Just as shaving minutes off flight times can significantly reduce fuel consumption, choosing eco-friendly industrial liquids both in flight and on ground can reduce air and soil contamination.

Choosing cleaning products that are safe for the environment and for aircraft is critical – over time any corrosive cleaners can damage the plane’s bodywork creating serious safety risks.

Envirosafe Solutions is a leading supplier of environmental cleaning products for the aviation industry. The Perth-based company has a range of eco-friendly liquid products including its insect and tar remover and marine glass cleaner suitable for use on aircraft.

Its kitchen range is perfect for use at airports – the Extreme Green Dishwasher Liquid has a caustic-free and non-foaming formula which makes it suitable for septics. It is also fully biodegradable and phosphate-free, making it a better choice for healthy waterways.

For the difficult task of cleaning dirt and scum stains in showers, toilets and refuse areas Extreme Green GelClean Sanitiser is an environmentally friendly liquid alternative.

Its high viscosity allows it to stick to walls and penetrate and rinses quickly to leave impressive results. Free of petro-solvents and harsh acids, this non-toxic environmental cleaning product is safe to use on most hard surfaces.

Creating the perfect flight can save fuel, money and reduce emissions. It is just another step in the direction of better environmental management for the aviation industry. For more environmental solutions contact Envirosafe Solutions’ on 1300 88 90 70 or email info@evss.com.au.

Trucking operators have new environmental tool

Eco Friendly, Environmental Cleaning Products, Dishwashing LiquidTruck operators have a new online tool available to reduce environmental impacts. The Australian Trucking Association’s ‘environmental best practice’ website has strategies for reducing exhaust emissions and managing waste as well as a host of industry case studies. The initiative is an example of this sector’s commitment to the green revolution.

The Australian Trucking Association has developed a website to help operators improve their environmental credentials.

The site has strategies for reducing smoke pollution and waste management and provides a valuable tool for truck operators wishing to reduce their costs, improve their environmental performance and enhance their corporate image.

Small steps can make a big difference. Driver training, route selection and the use of environmental cleaning products in the workshop and depot are part of environmental best practice.

The website’s voluntary guidelines are designed to help improve business management.

“The trucking industry, like many important sectors in Australia, can feel burdened by rules and regulations. These can make it hard to concentrate on running a good business and looking after our people and customers. Road safety and environmental performance are the most important issues in our industry but good environmental management is crucial to our future.”

Reducing exhaust emissions

Smoke emissions add to greenhouse gases and air pollution as well as higher vehicle running and maintenance costs.

Recommendations for reducing smoke emissions include:

  • Good driver habits (go easy on the accelerator, use lower gears under load);
  • Proper vehicle maintenance (check air filters, fuel injectors);
  • Don’t tamper with the vehicle by raising fuel pump rates, changing injection timing or disabling systems.

Fuel treatments can help reduce fuel line and filter blockages and metal corrosion. Envirosafe Solutions’ Diesel Bug Killer and Fuel Conditioner are ideal eco-friendly industrial liquids for improving both fleet and environmental performance.

In diesel fuels they remove water, which prevents the growth of Diesel Bug and cleans and lubricates the fuel system, reducing wear and extending the life of engine parts.

Managing waste

Penalties apply to the incorrect storage and disposal of waste. Recommendations for safe waste management include:

  • Scrap metal should be taken to a metal recycler;
  • Freon gas needs to be carefully handled and recycled as it poses a serious environmental threat if released into the atmosphere;
  • Waste antifreeze, scrap tyres and wet cell batteries can all be sent to appropriate recyclers.

Workshop cleaning

One area often overlooked by business operators is the risk posed by chemicals. Toxic products pose a health risk to workers and contribute to soil and water contamination.

Nearly all traditional workplace cleaners can be replaced with environmentally friendly liquids and powders. From anti-bacterial hand wash to rust removers and radiator coolants, there green alternatives which give comparable – even superior – results without exposing staff and the environment to harsh chemicals.

Envirosafe Solutions is an Australian supplier of eco-friendly industrial liquids and its leading Extreme Green range can be relied on to offer outstanding results.

The Australian Trucking Association has developed a new website  ( http://sites.google.com/site/truckenvironmentalcentre/Welcome ) for operators wanting to improve their green credentials. Switching to eco-friendly products in the workshop and depot is a simple step toward a cleaner, healthier workplace and environment. Fuel treatments helping diesel shedding its ‘dirty’ image

Fabric Conditioner, Laundry Powder, Dust SuppressorOn both rail and road the image of so-called ‘dirty diesels’ is one ofclattering noise and choking black exhaust fumes. Today we take a look at the history of the diesel engine and new green revolution technology (such as Envirosafe Solutions’ eco-friendly industrial liquid Diesel Bug Killer) that’s helping to drive a cleaner image.

Diesel technology has fueled the modern freight system of today.

First patented in 1878 by Rudolf Diesel, the diesel engine was designed as a solution to the gasoline engine, which in its early form was not terribly efficient.

Along with the steam engine, these two methods of transportation only used about 10 per cent of fuel to move a vehicle. The rest produced useless heat – which was wasteful, inefficient and costly.

Rudolf Diesel’s first successful engine was reportedly able to run at 26 per cent efficiency (twice as efficient as its peers).

Yet despite its efficiency and longer life-span, diesel engines today are vastly outranked by petrol motors in passenger cars. The negative image of big, soot-spewing trucks has made the diesel less attractive to the general motoring public.

While extreme green technologies (such as ultra-low sulphur diesel and environmental cleaning products) are helping to reduce the effects of diesel transport on the environment, it remains a significant pollutant.

The biggest drawback for diesel technology is its emissions – the exhaust fumes are dirtier than a comparable petrol motor. Diesel particulate matter has been proven to be cancer causing and contribute to greenhouse gases.

New emissions standards have been introduced by the Federal Government and are aimed at reducing particulate matter and emissions of hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides. By 2018 all diesels will need to be fitted with filters to dramatically cut the level of particulate matter in exhaust fumes.

Existing technologies including environmentally friendly liquid fuel conditioners improve the performance of diesel engines while reducing emissions.

Envirosafe Solutions is a leading Australian supplier of eco-friendly liquid products including a range of fuel treatments designed with diesels in mind.

Its Diesel Bug Killer kills a microscopic contaminant which produces a build-up of slime, which can clog fuel lines and filters. The bug also releases corrosive hydrogen sulphide, which can pit engine parts.

Suitable for all fuel types, this environmentally friendly liquid has become popular with councils and freight companies to improve fleet performance, reduce down-time and reduce dangerous emissions.

Envirosafe Solutions has an extensive range of green products, including truck washes and workshop cleaners all designed to reduce environmental impacts.

The diesel engine has powered a successful freight industry and tougher emissions guidelines, newer fuels and cleaner technologies look set to bring it into the motoring mainstream.

For more information on clean, green solutions for the workshop or depot contact Envirosafe Solutions on 1300 88 90 70 or email info@evss.com.au.

When you have to go, use formaldehyde-free toilet chemicals

Sanitiser/Mould Rid, Hard Water - Laundry Liquid, Porta-Loo TreatmentCamping holidays offer unparalleled freedom and the chance to get off the beaten track. But what do you do when nature calls – and how do you make sure you’re not spoiling the environment in the process? Portable toilets are a good option for trips away but be sure to avoid porta-loo treatments containing toxic formaldehyde.

The bush toilet has thankfully gone out of vogue in the modern camping holiday.

For the sake of privacy, comfort and the environment, most caravan or motorhome owners take along a portable toilet when they stay outside of public effluent facilities. Modern boats, caravans and motorhomes have built-in porta loos, in which the waste tank can be accessed through a small door on the outside of the camper.

Even the humble tenting holiday has become a more stylish affair, often incorporating a porta loo, shower and even the odd kitchen sink!

Disposing of porta toilet waste without contaminating soil or waterways requires a little thought.

The first step is to choose a safe, biodegradable,environmental cleaning product for the toilet.

When it comes finding aneco-friendly liquid porta-loo treatment, avoid anything that contains formaldehyde. This chemical is toxic to humans, plants and animals but is commonly used in toilet chemicals to sterilise and break down the black water.

Toilet waste containing formaldehyde should not be dumped straight into the ground, in long-drop toilets or in public effluent systems in small towns as these systems can not sufficiently dilute the formaldehyde to safe levels. This also applies to authorised ‘dump points’ provided in some regional areas for toilet waste.

Take toilet waste with you when you leave a camping site, such as a national park or private property. Check with your camping guide or nearest council for an authorised ‘dumping point’. If you must dispose of toilet waste at a camp site, remember it must be buried at least 15cm below the ground and 100 metres from waterways, paths or camping sites.

Envirosafe Solutions is a leading Australian supplier of eco-friendly liquid products. Its Extreme Green Porta Loo Treatment is fully biodegradable and suitable for use in septic system, long-drop and portable toilets. This formaldehyde-free, environmental cleaning product helps eliminate odours, break down waste and is completely safe to use.

The perfect caravanning, motorhome or boating holiday is one that leaves the environment just as pristine as it was found–which includes using biodegradable, formaldehyde-free toilet chemicals and disposing of toilet waste in a responsible manner. Australian scientist heads international mining research centre

Disinfectant, Rust Remover, Radiator CoolantImproving energy efficiency and scientific research in mining has been the impetus for a new project between Australia and Chile. A new research centre in Chile will help address common environmental and technological challenges. This latest example of mining innovation and teamwork is a step forward for the green revolution.

A leading Australian CSIRO scientist will head a new international mining and research processing centre to be based in Santiago, Chile.

Dr Neal Wai Poi has been appointed to lead the project, which was developed by the CSIRO in collaboration with the University of Chile and the Chile International Centre of Excellence in Mining and Mineral Processing.

He said he welcomed the opportunity to help tackle some of the common challenges faced by mining industries in Australia and Chile.

“Australia and Chile have many common current and future challenges that their mining industries need to address,” he said.

“These include processing lower-grade ores, improving water and energy efficiency in remote areas and deeper open-cut and underground operations.

“The Centre for Excellence will have extensive benefits for Australia, including creating new bilateral business opportunities for service companies, improving the efficiency and competitiveness of the industry and advancing scientific research.”

Leading the way

The Australian mining industry has been recognised as world leaders in new technologies and developing environmental standards. Recent innovations include:

  • Research showing mining waste can be used to filter water;
  • Reduced water and soil contamination through the use of eco-friendly industrial liquids;
  • Dust reduction (using wetting agents such as the Extreme Green Dust Suppressor/Soil Wetta);

In an address to the mining industry in June, Opposition leader Tony Abbott applauded its commitment to innovation.

“The Australian mining industry is a world leader at observing the best environmental standards, we are setting new standards in environmental care and concern and increasingly the mining industry is deeply respectful of indigenous culture,” he said.

Despite these commendations, the mining industry continues to come under scrutiny for environmental breaches and disasters.

The high-risk sector needs continued research and the foundation of a new international centre in Chile offers hope of better environmental and health outcomes.

Envirosafe Solutions has been proud to supply the mining industry with environmental cleaning product solutions. Its Extreme Green range includes eco-friendly industrial liquids designed specifically for remote mining sites. What is the Efficiency Standard Edition and the Equipment Energy Efficiency Program (E3)?

Glue Remover, Rust Converter, Dishwasher PowderToday Envirosafe Solutions, producers of eco friendly liquid products brings you news about the Efficiency Standard Edition and the Equipment Energy Efficiency Program– a quarterly publication that brings you up to date news on energy efficiency and the need for sourcing efficient whitegoods and electronic products.[1]

Appliances generate an enormous amount of greenhouses gases. This is now a proven fact. This actually means that all of us in the developed world contribute significantly to greenhouse gas issues and emissions and the way we live has a direct and dire affect on our planet and the future of the world.

A real and concerted approach to this fact – one that entails personal accountability and a willingness to change – is at the very heart of what is needed for ongoing change that can save the planet from dire environmental consequences.

The E3 Program

The E3 Program in Australia seeks to inform and implement requirements in relation to the MEPS or minimum energy efficiency requirements and mandatory energy rating labels that are now an inherent part of appliance purchase in Australia.

The program began in 1993 when it was realised that various activities in relation to power consumption by appliances needed a national and co-ordinated approach. Initially the program only referred to refrigerators and freezers which were viewed as the main offenders of CFC production.  Since then, the program has expanded its application to many appliances and has also been adopted by New Zealand as a meaningful strategy in the fight against greenhouse gas emissions.

The E3 now reports back to the Energy Efficiency Working Group and to the Ministerial Council on Energy. The basis for inclusion of new appliances depends on the community benefit that will arise if a particular appliance becomes part of the program.

Market intervention in the form of labelling

Most of you will be familiar with it. You walk into a major retail or appliance store and nearly every appliance is labelled in the corner with a large yellow star rated sticker that tells you how much energy the appliance uses. This system is actually viewed as “the world best regulatory target” and Australia needs to be extremely proud of this system.[2] It informs, educates and safeguards the environment against the possibility of excessive energy use when more energy efficient product alternatives may be available.

The Efficiency Standard Edition

This is a quarterly publication that offers you more detailed appliance information as it comes to light in the retail and government sectors. The kind of information outlined gives you a thorough insight into new products. For example, the last edition in 2010 took a comprehensive look at home entertainment systems which account for around 5% of household energy use in Australia.[3]

Envirosafe Solutions supports the government dissemination of information about energy use by appliances. Envirosafe Solutions also produces eco friendly liquid products for homes, business and industry. For more information phone (+61) 1300 88 90 70

Use Less

Rust Converter, Dishwasher Powder, DisinfectantWhether you’re a staunch believer in saving the planet or simply doing what you can to trim energy costs from your home or business, reducing the use of power in your home or business can help ease the strain on natural resources.

Lighting Decisions Can Save Money

For most people, simply getting rid of those old energy hogs known as incandescent lights, that burn through energy while providing little lighting in return, is the easiest way of reducing energy costs.

Switching to Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) can reduce energy consumption and since they do not generate nearly as much heat as incandescent bulbs, you can save a little on cooling costs as well.

Another option for lighting is light emitting diode lights, similar to those red, blue, green or other colour indicator lights on most of your electronic devices. Only the ones used for home or office lighting emit white light and can be used in most light fixtures, as well as working well with dimmer switches.

Appliances Demand More Power

In areas where energy costs are higher more people are looking into ways to cut costs and are turning to energy-saving appliances. In most homes, the refrigerator is the most energy-hungry appliance but many people don’t consider buying a new one until their old stops working. They look at the cost of replacement and see only one number…the price, and ignore the long-range savings potential. Many of the new Energy Star appliances cut energy use by 20 to 40 percent and the savings on electricity alone can help pay for the new appliance.

The Energy Rating Website, set up by the Australian Government is a valuable resource when seeking out new energy efficient appliances.[1] The site states that “improving the energy efficiency of appliances and products in all sectors – residential, commercial and industrial) has significant and environmental benefits for Australia and New Zealand. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy demand in both countries helps save consumers and business on running costs over the life of the products they choose.”[2]

The site also outlines relevant regulations, resources and has a comparison product guide that facilitates easier sourcing of efficient appliances for your needs.

Maintaining the Home’s Comfort Level

Heating and cooling is another area in the home that can cut deep into your energy budget.

Energy Star heating and cooling equipment can reduce energy use by 20 to 30 percent, making swapping out an older unit with a new one less expensive to operate while reducing the need for more energy production.

Newer geothermal heating systems can reduce energy consumption between 40 and 50 percent, depending on the home’s current energy source, and they are much more economical to maintain than traditional furnaces and air conditioners.

Learn about Reducing Energy Dependence

For too long people have simply used what they were used to using in terms of energy consumption. In order to understand how reducing energy demand can reduce not only your expenses but also the demand on world energy supplies, you activate change by educating yourself and your family about the real needs to conserve energy.

While a debate continues on the best methods of producing energy and why new modes of production are needed, you can determine which type of energy-saving efforts will save you money while helping to save the environment.

Envirosafe Solutions supports the need for equipment energy efficiency. Telephone (+61)1300 88 90 70 for more information on the Extreme Green range of liquid products that have the environment and sustainability at the heart of their approach.

United States Military – Alternative Energy Options

Glass cleaner, Fuel Conditioner, Toilet Bowl CleanerA strange thing is happening in the Unites States.

The military, typically a fairly conservative body, is starting to question its energy usage and is taking a good, hard look at its energy consumptions and expenditures. It’s a brave and revolutionary move, and it has the capacity to influence other armed forces around the world who have traditionally viewed the Unites States as a leader within the western world.

Steps are now being taken to help governments contribute to energy conservation and support of the environment through green initiatives. Not all these plans are being pursued, nor are they all being openly welcomed. However, most agree steps are needed to wean the U.S military off an unlimited use of power that relies on fossil fuels and oil and coal fired electricity.

Finding Clean and Reliable Energy

Currently, the military is pushing for each branch of service to look into the type of alternative energy amenable to them. Alternatives that are being proposed for military use include:

  • Solar power
  • Wind power
  • Thermal energy
  • Biofuels
  • Synthetic fuels
  • Fuel cells

This push to investigate the potential to use alternative energy can be a boon for contractors and green industries supplying new technologies. In Cincinnati on August 11, the U.S Secretary of the Army, John McHugh, said that a new energy Initiatives Office Task Force could help the armed forced transition to sourcing 25% of their energy needs from renewable sources by 2025.

It is believed that such a move would in fact lead to greater armed forces resilience and strength, given the current instability around fossil fuel use and finite supply, and would also help them to streamline their practices in keeping with the new global outlook that incorporates green practices as a key feature. Every possibility is currently being explores and the hope is to transform energy usage so that it matches the global push towards sustainability and environmental accountability

The Army estimates it will need to invest as much as $7.1 billion during the next decade to meet its renewable energy objectives. The task force will work within the military to help advance large-scale renewable and alternative energy projects on Army installations.

Costs in the future

In 2010 the U.S. military estimated its renewable energy expenses would top $1.8 billion, growing to an estimated $26.8 billion by 2030. A large portion of that expense will be for mobile applications including power for land, sea and air vehicles and portable power for soldiers in the field. A U.S. Army spokesman said the Army looks to achieve a fourth of the branch’s energy from renewable sources by 2025. The Army alone expects to invest over $7 billion over the next 10 years to meet its renewable energy goals.

In Australia, Envirosafe Solutions currently supplies to branches of the Australian Armed Forces. The Rise in Anti Consumerism

Eco Friendly, Environmental Cleaning Products, Dishwashing LiquidOver the past few years since the Global Financial Crisis there has been a distinct shift towards a conservatism around spending and also a more clear cut anti-consumerism movement.

This movement goes hand in hand with the environmental and green movements. An example of this can be seen in the “OCCUPY WALL ST” protesters and movement.[1]

The movement is a leaderless resistance movement uniting American individuals from all political persuasions, gender and colour. The unifying ethic and common view is “We are the 99% that will no longer tolerate greed and corruption of the 1%.”[2]

The movement also uses nonviolence to maximise safety of participants. At the heart of this movement is the distinct belief that greed, over consumption and an attitude of lack of care leads to distinct irregularities in the lifestyles of equal human beings.

Consumerism and waste

In October 2011 The ABC North Queensland division ran an article asking “Could you go cold turkey on consumption?”[3] October in Australia is now the Buy Nothing New Month.  This is a new nationwide campaign aimed and encouraging Australians to consider their consumer patterns and habits and to maybe hold off from purchases or the habituated tendency to simply buy for the sake of a feel good.[4]

The reasoning behind the site is that Australians need to “reassess what they really need and think about where the stuff they buy comes from (finite resources,) where it goes (landfill) and what their actual alternatives are.”[5]

It is not about a permanent cessation of consumption. Rather it is focuses on conscientious consumption or the idea that we can consume, but consume in a way that is more considered, more environmentally sound and more environmentally conscientious and considerate.

What You Purchase

So what do you actually purchase?  When you go to the supermarket what are the items you buy? Do you buy products with an enormous amount of packaging or do you buy products that are not wrapped up in excessive plastics and papers and cardboards?

Think about the kind of cleaning products and fluids you buy. Are they considerate of the environment and do they have a safety rating? Are they filled with nasties or are they green and organic alternatives that are less damaging to the precious earth, to your family and home and to Australia and its flora and fauna.

Envirosafe Solutions has been pushing this view for several years now, in the hope that Australians will think about the products they purchase and actually choose alternatives that are more conscientious and considerate. Their Extreme Green range is developed with this in mind and comes with a comprehensive safety rating that assures you of a realistic appraisal of the eco friendly product you are purchasing.
